Mariana Rockwell (b. 1993) is a visual artist from Chicago, IL. She received her BFA in 2015 from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and has been producing primarily works on paper, oil paintings, and sculpture. Marianas work is an exploration of the relationship between the phenomenology of ‘place’ and the subconscious. American regionalism and ‘Homestead’ paintings as well as the over-romanitization and emptiness of the United States heavily inform her image making. This body of work means to find the sacred in the mundane, explore and examine “darkness” as well as investigate how we come to assign ‘Value’ and‘Preciousness’ in the places we exist in, both externally and internally.
Mariana lives and works in Chicago, IL.
